Experience Christmas beyond Copenhagen
A short trainride from Copenhagen will take you to the magical wonders of places like Elsinore, Dragør, and Raadvad among others. To experience a more countryside atmosphere, these places and events are a must!
Experience a fairytale Christmas in Elsinore
Does it get any more fairytale-like than a big old castle, small decorated alleyways and lots of shops selling local handmade goods?
At Kronborg Castle you can experience Christmas markets on the last weekend in November and the first weekend in December. You can also just visit Kronborg and see the Christmas decorations in the old castle, the grandiose Christmas tree in the banqueting hall and have a hot drink overlooking the castle at the Strandvejs roastery.
In the city of Elsinore, the streets and alleys are magically decorated and the scent of fir trees and sparkling Christmas lights will delight all your senses. Be sure to get lost - that's how you really get to experience the city, stumbling upon small shops such as Nordiska Raum, Tibberup Høkeren and other quirky places.
Get the 'small-town vibe' in Dragør
Dragør is an old fishing village with buildings dating back to the 1700s. This makes it the perfect small and cosy Christmas town, where Amagermuseet and the town's houses have created a Christmas calendar: every day a new window will be lit up until 24 December.
On 23 November, the Christmas tree will be lit in Dragør, where Santa Claus has luckily found time to stop by. It also marks the opening of the Christmas market, which will pamper locals and visitors with exciting stalls, Christmas food and hot drinks every weekend.
If you were one of those who watched the Danish Christmas calendar ‘Tidsrejsen’ in 2014, you won't be able to avoid stopping by Badstuevælen, where much of Tidsrejsen was filmed. Here, several items from the calendar are on display, literally taking you back in time to when the advent calendar was filmed!

Danish Christmas food North of Copenhagen
Christmas is the season for the jolly - and the stomach. Fortunately, there are plenty of great places north of Copenhagen where you can get all the best of the Danish Christmas culinary delights.
In The Deer Park is the iconic Peter Liep's Hus, which has Christmas menus that include the whole palette of Christmas food. With an old-fashioned Danish atmosphere and exciting nature and wildlife right outside the door, you're in for a cosy and filling meal.
Raadvad Kro is known for their menu consisting almost exclusively of Danish dishes, and their Christmas menu is no exception. At Raadvad Fabrik, the last weekend in November and the first weekend in December there will also be a Christmas market with several workshops. Their sister restaurant, Den Gule Cottage, will also be serving a variety of Christmas dishes in the cosy thatched house.
Restaurant Søly in Rungsted, Brede Høker in Brede and Sankt Peder in Hellerup will also have special Christmas menus in memorable surroundings that will boost both the Christmas spirit and the good mood. Full - we can promise you'll be full!
